A 2 bedroom, High-Performance home located in the Queenstown Lakes District, south-east of Lake Wanaka.

Designed with the highest levels of comfort and warmth in mind, all while not taking away from the breathtaking views of the Southern Alps. This build boasts a massive 12 meters wide, full-height window/slider set across the face of the house to capture the full view looking down the valley to the Southern Alps.

The use of Black Martini dECO Deluxe sound absorptive board for interior wall and ceiling linings creates a shadowing effect drawing your eye to the view.

Challenges:

Window Size: The design brief with the client specified a specific look they wanted with the inset walls along each side. This proved particularly difficult along the front of the house with the 12m long window and door set. A large amount of engineering and steelworks was involved to help support the window which weighed in close to 1000kg.

Delivery/Landing: Being constructed from 40ft containers meant the landing of the units was always going to be a challenge without the use of a larger crane which is difficult to source in a remote location. Through the use of 2 crane trucks and some expert driving, the containers were lifted into place one at a time with 1 crane attached to each end.
